Fastweb launches its mobile offer to become a quadruple play operator

Through a massive TV campaign starting tonight and hosting his leader testimonial, the Moto GP rider Valentino Rossi, Fastweb will finally launch its mobile offering to become a full quadruple play operator.

This is the result a former MVNO agreement with UMTS-only operator Tre.
Fastweb’s consumer offering is also unique in Italy because it will be sold only in post-paid mode, in a country where roughly 90% of mobile users are on pre-paid contracts.

Ethnic MVNO

Daily Telecom is the first ‘ethnic’ MVNO operating in Italy. It targets the Chinese community living in Italy offering special tariffs to China and Taiwan and a bi-lingual customer service.

Daily Telecom was a reseller on international calling card and it now enters the MVNO space through an agreement with Vodafone.

Fastweb’s MVNO network by Siemens Nokia

Fastweb has selected Nokia Siemens Networks as a technological partner when it launches mobile services later this year.

Fastweb’s entry into the Mobile Virtual Network Operator space is based on the recent agreement signed with 3Italia, Hutchinson Whampoa Group, which will allow the company to offer mobile services (voice, data, video) complementing its “all-IP” fixed broadband network.
Nokia Siemens Networks will deliver the network control solution, featuring its Intelligent Service Node (Flexi ISN), during the first quarter of 2008, ensuring that the whole system be in place for the MVNO service launch, scheduled for the second half of the year.
The contract also includes a service package for commissioning, installation and launch support to prepare Fastweb for the MVNO operation

Retail chain COOP is the first Italian MVNO

At last a MVNO in Italy. As expected, the retail giant COOP became Italy’s first virtual mobile carrier, which is launching a range of services marketed under the ‘COOPVoce’ brand.

Telecom Italia is providing COOP with nationwide mobile network technology infrastructure, plus the company’s expertise in running complex IT systems and developing innovative services.
COOP will be setting its own pricing and rolling out a range of sales offerings. The company is directly responsible for customer acquisition and customer relations during the sales and after-sales phase through a dedicated number.

Italian Post to become MVNO

The Italian Post Office (Poste Italiane) announced today its plan to become a mobile virtual network operator.

Thanks to its network of more than 14.000 shops, the post office can easily reach every Italian citizen at ‘walking distance’ to sell its services. Being the market leader in payment service, it also plans to offer a whole range of mobile-based payment services.
Poste Italiane’s managing director Massimo Sarmi said negotiations with MNOs are still going on and he gave no precise timeframe about the initial availability of the service.
Sarmi also said the company hopes to reach 2 m mobile customers by 2011.
