FTTx deployment: fixed and mobile access

In the next three years Telecom Italia plans to deploy FTTx both to sell broadband access to its fixed customers and to backhaul mobile traffic.

According to the latest three-years plan presented a few days ago, Telecom Italia expect to deploy 52,600 FTTx cabinet by 2010 passing 2.050.000 customers.

Fiber will be also extensively used to backhaul mobile traffic from base stations. About 1,700 base stations will be fiber-connected by 2010.
