Government threatens to ban the mobile recharge fee

The prominent Minister of Economic Development, Pierluigi Bersani, publicly stated during a TV interview that the Italian Government might soon ban the mobile recharge fee if the operators will not soon lower it.

Consumer advocates are strongly asking for a ban of this unpopular fee. It all started by an online petition promoted by a student and now Mr Bersani is jumping on the bandwagon.
What Mr Bersani has not yet explained is why the Government should ban the mobile recharge fee while at the same time it still collects a tax of € 5,16 a month per each post paid mobile subscriber (€ 12,91 a month for business subscribers).
Actually, avoiding the State tax on post-paid was the original seed that helped pre-paid to become so popular in Italy.
