A few days after announcing a sudden change of strategy, Marco Tronchetti Provera stepped down as chairman of Telecom Italia.
The board appointed as his successor Guido Rossi, a 76 year old lawyer who had already served as president of the company for ten months in 1997, when Telecom Italia was being privatised by the Italian Government, at the time headed by Romano Prodi, the current Prime Minister.
