Mobile access charge to directory service under scrutiny

The National Regulatory Authority (AGCOM) said is it is investigating the access charges applied by mobile network operators to directory services.

AGCOM said that access prices for mobile users dialling directory service numbers are too high (as high as 50% of retail prices) and much higher than European average. AGCOM is planning to force all MNOs to reduce this access charge.

The Authority is expected to set a maximum access charge two times the standard M2M interconnection charge.

Agcom decided that mobile access charge to directory services cannot exceed twice the mobile termination rate. For instance, TIM and Vodafone currently apply a termination rate of 11,2 €cent per minute. Therefore, they cannot apply an access charge higher than 22,4 €cent per minute anymore.
